Women... and the Courage to Lead Authentically
Leadership is under a microscope as never before. Why? Let's face it: the record of recent history is rather shoddy. Consider leadership of the Vietnam War era, the impact of Watergate, the shattering of employer/employee relationships from the downsizing frenzies of the 1980s and 1990s and, more recently, slashed confidence in corporate governance in the wake of multiple organizational scandals. All of these, in an environment of 24/7 media, contribute to largely negative perceptions of business and political leaders. Indeed, we have a leadership crisis on our hands.
For women, an opportunity of unprecedented proportion exists to deploy a new, courageous breed of authentic leaders throughout the organizational landscape. The opportunity is not a gender competition with male counterparts to replace counterfeit executives and fast trackers with fresh “imposters.” Instead, we have before us a chance to combine the very best - the special gifts - women leaders bring to the table and combine them with the talents and gifts of the men with whom they work, lead... and trust. Women leading organizations is no longer a “diversity” issue. It is a leadership issue.
Extensive research indicates top female talent de-selects organizations that discourage authenticity for the sake of conformity. In fact, increasing numbers of women leaders have left high-paying, prestigious corporate roles to start their own businesses when it was evident to them their authentic values were not embraced by their former employers. Without these talented women, organizations are at tremendous risk: the bottom line is reduced profits, lost productivity, higher medical costs and diminished talent retention. Conversely, when organizations strive to attract, retain and install women who understand what authentic leadership is all about, the results are not only abundant to the bottom line; they radiate to clients, suppliers and communities. Women who lead authentically are desperately needed by organizations... and women who understand fully who they are as authentic leaders realize dramatic, positive returns in their careers and work/life equations.
Authentic leadership does not just "happen". Women, and men, who recognize the necessity of authentic leadership choose to lead authentically by first understanding their shadows; the emotional baggage they carry that limits their performance and positions them for failure.
This powerful Executive Roundtable session provides women leaders and professionals with powerful insights, the tools to achieve authentic awareness, and a template to deploy leadership based upon their true authenticity. Executive and professional women who participate will learn how to demonstrate authentic leadership and how to enable it throughout the organization without massive expense, wasteful meetings, slogans and "initiatives" that always seem to end as "another program du jour ". And, most importantly, chances of realizing extraordinary results will be genuinely enhanced.
